Dear Prospective Circle of Care Volunteer,
Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer with Circle of Care. The services that you will be providing to our families may be some of the most important work you will do in your adult life. With that in mind, we have created a training program that is both informational and deeply reflective. Due to the sensitive and intense nature of this work, we do require that you attend all 4 sessions in their entirety in order to begin your volunteer experience.

Volunteer Training Program Schedule

Winter, 2010 Circle of Care
Volunteer Training Program Schedule
Saturday, January 23rd, 8:30am - 4:30pm
Monday, January 25th, 5:00pm - 9:00pm
Tuesday, January 26th, 5:00 - 9:00pm
Saturday, January 30th, 8:30am - 4:30pm

Summer, 2010 Circle of Care
August, 2010 specific dates TBA

If you would like to become a volunteer and can commit to attending all four sessions of this season’s training module, please return your volunteer application to me to me as soon as possible so I may review it and contact you for an interview. Space is limited, so requests received after July 24th may need to be deferred to the next training cycle.

The training program consists of 24 hours of intense and comprehensive learning in a peer environment:

  • Developing an inclusive understanding of the grief process, particularly for children
  • Building Critical Reflection Skills for understanding your personal growing edges
  • Expanding and refining your cultural competency skills
  • Becoming familiar with children’s developmental stages
  • Using art, music and movement as tools for healing
  • Creating team learning relationships and cooperative debriefing skills
